Hyperhidrosis

Stop Worrying About Excessive Underarm Sweating with Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Whether it is called glowing, glistening or perspiring, sweating is a fact of life. As the primary way for the body to control its temperature, sweating is a completely normal and important function. However, when the body produces more sweat than it needs to regulate temperature, it might indicate hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. This condition can lead to physical discomfort, anxiety or self-consciousness, and in extreme cases, even a reduced quality of life.

Treatments for Excessive Sweating

At Vitality Medi Spa, we understand how uncomfortable it can be to live with hyperhidrosis and offer a number of treatments that provide ongoing relief from the symptoms of this condition. Many of our patients have been trying unsuccessfully to manage the symptoms by using strong or clinical strength antiperspirants, frequently changing their clothes, avoiding certain fabrics or articles of clothing, or even putting absorbent materials under their armpits or other areas. When these tactics no longer provide relief, using BOTOX®, Xeomin® or Dysport® can help counteract the symptoms of severe underarm sweating.

Vitality Medi Spa is the only medi spa in Halifax with a dedicated, in house medical aesthetics team. Led by Dr. van Aardt, President of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine, we provide clinical treatment for hyperhidrosis through use of neuromodulators. Injecting neuromodulators into the affected areas temporarily blocks the signals from the nerves that prompt the sweat glands to activate. By cutting off the signal at the site of the injection for weeks to months at a time, the excessive production of sweat stops. Your body will continue to produce sweat elsewhere as normal, but you will be free to stop worrying about the areas you are most self-conscious about. This treatment provides a long-term but not permanent solution for hyperhidrosis.

How Does Neurotoxin Treatment for Hyperhidrosis Work?

Neurotoxin treatment has been proven as an effective therapy for hyperhidrosis in multiple studies. One clinical study* with 322 participants who self-identified as having severe underarm sweating that impacted their daily lives discovered that half of the patients who sought neurotoxin treatment achieved an effective response. An effective response was determined if their condition improved by two grades on the Hyperhidrosis Disease Severity Scale in the time between the beginning of the study and their first two treatments, or after one treatment if they saw sustained results and were not required to undergo another round of treatment. Participants who were treated were 81% more likely to achieve a reduction in sweating, compared to 41% who did not undergo the treatment.
